And the sentence that keeps this fair, from VWO's own migration FAQ: "Your existing contract, subscription terms, and pricing remain unchanged." Take them at their word. The argument on this page is not that VWO customers are being abandoned — it's that they've been enrolled in a multi-quarter integration they didn't choose, and that's worth pricing before you sign for another year.
The renewal question nobody's page asks
A merger of equals still has to converge: one data model, one product line, one support organisation, eventually one roadmap. VWO says that work runs "over several quarters." So a customer renewing today is buying, in practical terms:
- A product mid-rename. The tool your team knows as VWO Insights is becoming Wingify Insights; documentation URLs have already moved once.
- A roadmap being merged with a competitor's. Two overlapping testing suites, two personalisation engines and two AI assistants are becoming one of each. Which halves survive is exactly the detail no one can put in your contract.
- A support and billing relationship that changed addresses mid-contract — small on its own, but a preview of how much else is in motion.
If your programme is deep in VWO — saved segments, funnels, years of test archives — the switching cost is real and staying may still be the right call. But "we'll integrate over several quarters" is also the strongest reason you'll ever have to make the vendor re-earn the renewal. Ask what the unified suite keeps, and get it in writing.
The same merger, read from the AB Tasty side, is a different story with different stakes — we've written that page separately. The full market timeline, from Google Optimize's shutdown to Wingify, lives in one reference guide.
VWO alternatives at a glance
| Tool | Best for | Published price | Free plan or trial | What the entry tier holds back |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VWO (rebranding to Wingify) | Testing, heatmaps, recordings, funnels and surveys in one account | Not published. All three plan cards read "Schedule a Demo"; billed on Monthly Tracked Users, Growth capped at 250K MTU | No free plan on the pricing page — a real 30-day trial, no card, "No Feature Restrictions" | Growth strips multivariate testing, guardrails, campaign scheduling and the advanced targeting and report-filter set (both start at Pro); Insights retention is 1 month; SSO and mutually exclusive groups are Enterprise |
| Mtrix | DTC brands consolidating testing, replay, analytics and the store itself | Not published — custom. Flat across three tiers, not metered on sessions, orders or profiles | No free tier. One month free, no credit card, full platform | Nothing is tiered away: targeting isn’t gated, experiments aren’t capped on any plan. The honest gaps are elsewhere — web only, no free tier |
| Optimizely | Enterprise programmes that want the category’s reference stats engine | Not published. "Every Optimizely plan is individually packaged" | Yes — free Rollouts, "one concurrent experiment at a time" | The paid product is quote-only; client-side and server-side are two products their docs recommend "pairing" |
| Convert.com | Anyone who wants the price before the call | $399/mo monthly ($299/mo annual) at 100K tested users | No — 15-day trial, no card | Full Stack (server-side), multivariate and multi-page tests all start at Pro, $599/mo monthly |
| GrowthBook | Teams with a warehouse and an engineer to point at it | Free, then $40 / seat / month | Yes — 3 users, unlimited flags, experiments and traffic | Visual editor and multi-armed bandits start at Pro; warehouse modelling is on you |
| Statsig (Amplitude) | Engineering teams that want serious statistics free | Free, then $150/mo (5M events, then $0.05 per 1K) | Yes — 2M events/mo, 50,000 replays/mo, unlimited seats | Bandits start at Pro; the product thinks in events, not orders |
| PostHog | Product teams wanting analytics, replay and experiments on one bill | Usage-based, published per product, free allowance monthly | Yes — 1M events, 1M flag requests, 5,000 replays/mo, no card | The no-code web editor is beta by their own labelling — this is a tool for technical teams |
Notice what's not on the list: AB Tasty. Every older page ranking for this term offers it as the escape hatch from VWO. Since 20 January 2026 that's not an alternative — it's the same company.
The tier you can afford is thinner than the demo
This is the part of VWO that a renewal or an evaluation should price carefully, and every fact in it is from VWO's own pricing page, parsed on 26 July 2026.
On the Growth tier — the entry point — VWO's feature matrix marks off: multivariate testing, multi-page and multi-device campaigns, guardrail metrics, sample-ratio-mismatch detection, scheduling, cross-domain testing, session recordings and heatmaps inside campaign reports, and the advanced audience-targeting and report-filter sets, which start at Pro. Insights data retention on Growth is 1 month, saved recordings cap at 100, and version history keeps the last 3 changes. SSO is Enterprise-only. Mutually exclusive groups are Enterprise-only — and capped at 10 groups even there. Removing Wingify branding from what your visitors see: Enterprise-only.
One contradiction worth printing rather than resolving: VWO's detailed matrix marks every audience-targeting row off Growth, while its own Growth plan card lists "Enhanced Targeting — User ID, Device, OS." Their page disagrees with itself; what both halves agree on is that the full targeting set is a Pro upsell.
To be equally straight about the other side: VWO's 30-day trial is genuinely better than most of the category — no card, and in their words "No Feature Restrictions." You get to drive the Enterprise product for a month. The question this section raises is only what you're driving after you pay.
Where Mtrix fits — and what you give up
Mtrix's pitch to a VWO customer is not "same tool, nicer vendor." It's a different shape: the store, the experiments, the analytics, the replay, the errors and the orders in one data model — either as the platform your store runs on, or as one script on the store you have.
- Nothing about testing is tiered. Four test types — A/B, multivariate, split URL, mask URL — plus bandit allocation, on every plan, with no cap on concurrent or monthly experiments. Audience targeting and mutually exclusive overlapping tests are standard, not an Enterprise SKU capped at 10 groups.
- Server-side by default. The allocation decision is made in Mtrix's backend on every install, held against your visitor ID with a 30-day server-side lookback — not in a browser cookie.
- 100% of sessions captured, on every plan. Sampling is an opt-in control, not a pricing lever. Replay filters by experiment and variant arm, so the losing variant's sessions are a click away.
- Three years of events and purchases. VWO's entry tier keeps Insights data for one month. Mtrix keeps events and purchase data for 3 years — long enough to compare this Black Friday against the last two. Replay and error recordings, to be equally clear, are kept for 1 month.
- No tracked-user pool to manage. VWO bills on Monthly Tracked Users against a 250K cap at entry. Mtrix pricing is flat across three tiers, not metered on sessions, orders or profiles.
What you give up, plainly. Mobile-native testing — VWO ships app SDKs, tap heatmaps, app-version and network-speed targeting; Mtrix is web only, full stop. Surveys — VWO has them, Mtrix doesn't. A free month is the whole trial — VWO's 30-day unrestricted trial matches it, so try both on the same store and let the data argue. And Mtrix doesn't publish pricing either — that comparison is a wash, and anyone who tells you otherwise is spinning.
When staying with VWO is the right call
- You're on Enterprise and using it. Holdouts, mutual exclusion, SRM detection, guardrails — the top tier is a mature experimentation product, and if your team runs on it daily, a rebrand is not a reason to migrate.
- You test native mobile apps. VWO's mobile depth — app SDKs, tap heatmaps, crash and ANR filters — has no Mtrix equivalent at all.
- You need data-residency choice at the entry tier. VWO offers US, EU and India storage on every plan. That's genuinely rare and worth staying for if it's a requirement.
- You believe in the combined roadmap. A >$100m-revenue company with 4,000 customers is not going anywhere, and the merged suite will eventually hold both companies' best work. Buying the integration years is a legitimate bet — as long as you're making it on purpose.
